A grant of £1 million ($1.3 million) has been awarded to 170 football clubs across the country by the National Lottery. Wyrley Juniors is one of 170 organisations nationwide that will receive a portion of the £1 million grant.
This grant is a tribute to the Lionesses' triumph at the Euro's and is a component of the National Lottery's "women's Euro's legacy new team grant." The grant has also been awarded to organisations in order to promote the level of female participation.
Wyrley Juniors, a football club located in Walsall, has been awarded a portion of the National Lottery grant. The funds will be used to establish five new girl's teams.
The club is one of the largest in Staffordshire and provides football for individuals of all ages, with nearly 70 teams, and five more teams are on the horizon.
It is anticipated that the number of women and girls who are interested in participating in football will continue to increase as the 2023 Women's World Cup is currently underway in Australia and New Zealand.
Jo Johnson, the Club Secretary of Wyrley Juniors FC, stated, "There was a significant increase in girls' football following the Euros, and I am optimistic that the Women's World Cup will have a similar impact."
"We were appreciative of a grant from The National Lottery, which enabled us to establish the new teams in order to meet the demand." After the Lionesses' victory, girls were motivated to participate in football, and we have since significantly expanded our girls' section.
"The past National Lottery funding has also enabled us to construct a clubhouse that includes ample changing rooms and restrooms for all; it has been an excellent experience."
